TANGO International assisted CARE Bangladesh and the UK Department for International Development by providing technical support in conducting baseline surveys. The surveys were designed to measure the livelihoods impact of two CARE projects in Northwest and Southeast regions of Bangladesh. Both projects seek to improve homestead vegetable production and integrated rice-fish production. The assessment provides suggestions to increase the effectiveness of project interventions, to identify best practices, and to establish a livelihood monitoring system.

Ethiopia: The Path to Self Resiliency
In July 2007 TANGO, in collaboration with CANGO and CHF – Partners in Rural Development, undertook an in depth study of rural household resiliency in food insecure regions of Ethiopia. The study objective was to gain a better understanding of vulnerability, livelihoods, and resiliency within the livelihood context in order to address the long-term development challenges of structural poverty within rural Ethiopia.

TANGO worked with the Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance (FANTA) project and WFP to develop comprehensive guidelines to help organizations more effectively respond to the challenge of food insecurity in areas of high HIV prevalence. The guide is based on a thorough review of current practices and innovations in food aid, HIV and AIDS and the complex issues facing NGOs and donor agencies.

Sep 2007 - Nov 2007 In September 2007, TANGO in collaboration with USAID's FANTA Project undertook a Food Assistance Study in Southern Sudan. This report provides an analysis of the key issues related to food insecurity in Southern Sudan and the Three Areas (Abyei, the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile). The study proposes possible steps for addressing food security through development of an integrated food security strategy and by leveraging Title II and Disaster Assistance funds in a complementary manner that emphasizes the transitions taking place in livelihoods, education, health, nutrition, institutions and security.

Jul 2007 - Aug 2007 In July 2007 TANGO International evaluated the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' (IFRC) Transitional Shelter Programme (TSP). Over 16,500 shelters were constructed in the wake of the December 2004 tsunami by IFRC and their implementing partners. The evaluation utilized quantitative methods to determine demographic profiles of beneficiaries, level of access to basic support services, overall beneficiary satisfaction, and future housing plans of beneficiaries.

Sep 2006 - Oct 2006 In 2006 TANGO conducted an in depth survey for the World Food Programme (WFP) in rural Bangladesh. The study objective was to create socio-economic profiles and determine levels of vulnerability and food security in WFP operational areas. The disaggregation by socio-economic status enabled a more nuanced and descriptive analysis of food security and vulnerability issues, allowing WFP to design their programmes accordingly.
